CTG’s award-winning Centerstage Youth Performing Group provides a prestigious opportunity for experienced performers in grades 5-12. Founded in 2006 by Roz Fulton, these audition-only troupes meet the needs of serious young actors. Once accepted, students will work with professional instructors, concentrating on acting, musical theatre and dance.

Centerstage performers will compete against thousands of other students from around the country. CTG’s Centerstage group has brought home an award every time it has competed:
1. What is the CenterStage program? CenterStage is an audition-only youth theater troupe for students in 5th-12th grades, designed for those seeking an intensive experience in acting and musical theatre. The program offers advanced training and preparation for high-level performances and competitions.
2. Who can join the CenterStage program? The program is open to students in 5th-12th grades who successfully audition. It is ideal for students passionate about acting and musical theatre who are looking to deepen their skills and experience.
3. Where are the rehearsals held? Rehearsals take place at the Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG), located at 520 South Elm Street, Greensboro, NC.
4. Is placement in the CenterStage program guaranteed each year? No, placement in the CenterStage program is not guaranteed each year. All students must re-audition annually, and acceptance is based on their performance in the auditions. Auditions and Membership
5. What happens if my child is not selected? If your child is not selected for the troupe, there are other opportunities to participate in different CTG programs or audition again in the future.
6. When do rehearsals start, and how often are they? Rehearsals start in October and are held twice a week, picking up days as the festival approaches (January 2025). Selected students will receive the exact schedule and are expected to commit to regular attendance.
7. Is there a significant time commitment required? Yes, the program requires a strong commitment, with regular rehearsals and additional activities as the troupe prepares for performances, including the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta.
8. What is the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta? The Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) is a major event where youth theater troupes from around the country perform and participate in workshops. The CenterStage troupe intensively prepares for this festival throughout the season.
9. What are the costs involved in joining CenterStage? Tuition fees apply for the program, along with additional costs such as travel and accommodation for the Junior Theatre Festival, costumes, and materials. The estimated program tuition is $1500/Student. Monthly payment plans are available, along with fundraising opportunities.
10. Are there fundraising opportunities to help with costs? Yes, fundraising activities are often organized to help reduce costs, particularly for events like the Junior Theatre Festival. Participation in fundraising efforts is highly encouraged.
11. How can parents support the CenterStage program? Parents can support the program by volunteering in various capacities, including helping with fundraising, event organization, etc. There will also be select opportunities to chaperone during the Junior Theatre Festival trip.
