GREENSBORO, N.C. 10/04/2016 – Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG) Youth Theatre brings new life to the classic play The Adventures of Tom Sawyer based on the story by Mark Twain and adapted for the stage by Paul Kester, October 7- October 16, 2016 at the Starr Theatre. Director Ezra Brian returns to CTG to direct the production, he previously directed Charlotte’s Webb at CTG.
The classic tale of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer follows the mischief of town trouble-maker Tom Sawyer, his friend Huckleberry Finn and first love Becky Thatcher. The play tackles themes of the boundless adventures of childhood, love, mischief and treasure hunting. Imaginative Tom cons his friends and family to get out of chores and embark on dangerous adventure to find buried treasure and gets into some trouble along the way. This delightful tale has a timeless message that appeals to audiences of all ages.
“The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a story that children and adults alike can relate to. How many of us have felt beaten down by responsibilities and wanted to run away? How many of us have been faced with a situation where we have to make a difficult choice between what is right and what is easy? The message of the show–that we can solve almost any problem if we just put aside our differences and come together, is as true now as it has ever been. This cast of incredibly talented kids brings new life to a classic script and performs a funny, moving, and timely production of Tom Sawyer,” Director, Ezra Brain said of the production.
Director Ezra Brain has previously directed for UNC-Greensboro, Paper Lantern Theatre, Drama Center, Greensboro Children’s Theatre, Stop Pretending Theatre Project, and Left Field Theatre–where he also served as Artistic Director. Ezra has taught Drama for the past two summers at Camp Livingston. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor Of Fine Arts in Theatre Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
